When I Read a Poem

Sometimes when I read a poem, especially one I consider well written, I want to stop everything and write a million words all at once and blast them into the universe like an explosion of a billion thoughts and emotions not caring where they land or if they’re collected by anyone..

Sometimes when I read a poem, especially one I label as good, I want to take my entire life and squeeze out the bad parts and come up with five good and succinct lines that sums up everything in a way that’s never been done before.

Sometimes when I read a poem, especially one I feel is simple and pure, I want to sit on my deck under the giant umbrella and absorb every passing molecule and hold each one like a precious gem up to the light to watch the prism of color shining through and thank it for its existence.

Sometimes when I read a poem, especially one that inspires me, I want to scream out that yes I get what you’re saying and I see you and I love how you made words do something so special that I want to recite each one like a triumphant battle cry from the podium of my soul.
